Table of Contents

Snake fruit also known as Salak is a tropical fruit native to Indonesia. You can find it quite easily upon visiting the country.

From a traditional fruit stall across the street to the more luxurious malls or hotels showcases this mysterious fruit. But should you buy salak and eat it? Read on.

Snake fruit is rich with protein, beta-carotene, vitamin-C, dietary fiber, iron, calcium, phosphorus, and carbohydrates. Yup, it’s true, those substances are good for your body.

In fact, eating snake fruit at least on a weekly basis could maintain your healthy heart and blood vessels, gives you stamina boost, balancing your blood sugar levels, improve brain memory, and more.

But hang on a second, did you know; apart from those health benefits there are certain medical condition that anyone with that should avoid eating salak.

3 Medical condition that are not allowed to eat Snake fruit

1. Ulcer patients

Do not eat snake fruit when you have an ulcer. It may take a turn for the worse if you eat too much salak fruit. The content, especially protein, dietary fiber, and carbohydrate takes longer time to digest.

Consequently, the fruit will stay in the stomach longer – therefore more acid is released to digest it. And we all know that too much acid is not good for ulcer patients.

2. Constipation patients

Salak has a high-fiber content, yes it is good for your diet but if you have constipation, avoid eating salak at all costs!

It happened to me back then when I knew nothing about its fiber content. Trust me, it doesn’t feel good at all when you want to throw it but it can’t come out, lol.

On the other hand, when you have diarrhea then this fruit is the magic natural medicine to stop it. Eat some snake fruits, and your digestive system will be back to normal in less than a day. Try it, it works!

3. Typhoid patients

Typhoid fever is a type of enteric fever, along with paratyphoid fever. The cause is the bacterium Salmonella Typhi, also known as Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi, growing in the intestines and blood. Typhoid is spread by eating or drinking food or water contaminated with the feces of an infected person.

Snake fruit is tasty and it also provides many health benefits, but when you are suffering from typhoid you better not eating it. The fiber content will cause your digestive system distressed and it definitely will make your condition worse.

So when you have those medical conditions it is better to avoid eating snake fruit. Even though the fruit provides many benefits, excessive consumption is still not a good idea.
